Today’s weather: Fog, cold and coastal showers expected across the country

South Africans can expect a mostly calm and cool start to the new week on Monday, 8 June, 2026, with dry and stable conditions dominating much of the country’s interior. No severe weather warnings, fire danger alerts or advisories have been issued by the South African Weather Service.

The best chance of rain will be confined to the southern parts of the country as a cold front influences the coastal regions. The Western Cape will remain cloudy at times, particularly across southern and central areas, where rain and showers are expected.

Rain chances range from 60% along the south-western coast, including areas around Cape Town and adjacent coastal districts, decreasing to 30% further east across the Garden Route and interior southern sections.

Across the Eastern Cape, conditions will start off fine during the morning before cloud cover increases through the afternoon. Isolated showers and light rain are expected to develop over the western and central parts of the province, with a 30% chance of rainfall extending into some southern coastal areas by late afternoon and evening.

The Northern Cape will be cold to cool with partly cloudy skies. Isolated showers are possible in the south-eastern parts of the province, carrying a 30% chance of rain, while the remainder of the province stays dry.

Elsewhere, dry weather will dominate. Gauteng can expect a fine day with cool temperatures and low UV levels. Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West will remain largely sunny and cool, although temperatures will become warmer in the eastern Lowveld and Limpopo’s eastern regions.

The Free State will be cold to cool with some afternoon cloud developing in southern districts.

KwaZulu-Natal will begin the day with patches of morning fog in the east before clearing to a partly cloudy afternoon. Conditions will remain dry across the province, with warmer weather expected in the north-eastern areas and a high UV index.

Overall, Monday will be a chilly winter’s day for most of South Africa, with meaningful rainfall limited to the Western Cape and parts of the Eastern Cape. Rainfall probabilities will generally range between 30% and 60% across southern coastal regions, while the rest of the country remains dry and stable under cool winter conditions.
