Labour pact weighs steps after WC officials’ refusal to remove foreigners from jobs

LACO’s Sapho Mahilile said citizens will take action.

“Western Cape government, since it cannot respond to the issue of illegal migrants who are employed in all these companies across the province, it is the duty of citizens now.”

Meanwhile, Operation Dudula’s Siyabulela Dukumbana said the government isn’t prioritising citizens.

“It’s so sad to have a government that doesn’t care about its own people because these people are here now. You can see the people here, these people are not working. These people, they want a better life, but they can’t because of the foreigners, they occupy whatever that’s supposed to be for us.”

At the same time, protesters from March and March said the government should have used the R600 million used on police deployments for the day to create jobs.

“I mean, they can use that R600 million to build even the houses. They can use that R600 million to NSFAS [National Student Financial Aid Scheme], to help the children. It’s totally wrong.”
