Limpopo repatriation bus crash: Driver dies, at least 11 injured

A driver of a repatriation bus has died with 11 passengers injured during a crash in Limpopo on Tuesday.

It’s understood the vehicle was en route to a repatriation site in Musina when it overturned on the N1 overnight, approximately four kilometres south of the Beitbridge Border Post.

Limpopo’s Department of Transport spokesperson, Mashudu Mabata, said they believe the driver lost control of the bus due to fatigue.

“According to preliminary reports, a bus transporting individuals from KwaZulu-Natal to the repatriation camp in Beitbridge was involved in a crash after the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to fatigue, causing the bus to overturn.

“The driver has been confirmed deceased, while eleven passengers sustained injuries.”

Added Mabata: “The road remains open to traffic at this stage. However, motorists are advised that temporary closures may be implemented to allow forensic investigators to conduct their work safely. Delays should therefore be expected.”

The injured victims have been taken to hospital.

The Limpopo Department of Transport said it would continue to monitor the situation and provide updates.

This is a developing story. More details to follow.
