Viral TikTok lands Mpumalanga police officer in hot water

Police management said officers are expected to uphold discipline and professionalism at all times while in uniform and warned that conduct that tarnishes the image of the organisation would not be tolerated.

“The SAPS will not hesitate to take decisive action against any member whose conduct tarnishes the image of the organisation.”

The police also used the incident to remind members that they are prohibited from engaging with the media or making public statements without authorisation from the National Commissioner or the Head of Corporate Communication and Liaison.

According to SAPS National Instruction 5 of 2017, the restriction extends to social media posts where members are identifiable as SAPS officials or appear in uniform.

Management further cautioned officers against recording or sharing TikTok videos and other social media content that could undermine public confidence in the police service.

“Compliance is not optional. Any deviation from this Instruction will result in consequence management in line with SAPS disciplinary processes,” the statement said.
