Voter registration weekend sees 330k transactions in Limpopo | Review

LIMPOPO – The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in Limpopo says the first voter registration weekend was a success, with all 3 317 registration stations opening across the province on June 20 and 21.

According to IEC Limpopo Senior Outreach Officer Simon Thobakgale, the province recorded over 330 000 transactions over the two days.

More than 47 000 new voters registered

Of the total transactions, more than 47 000 were new registrations, with over 204 000 re-registrations. The province also recorded approximately 80 000 district transfers.

The figures come as the IEC continues its push to increase the province’s voter roll, which currently stands at approximately 2.8 million registered voters.

Registration remains open

Thobakgale confirmed that registration remains open until the announcement of the election date. Citizens who were unable to register over the weekend can still register online.
