The Department of Correctional Services (DCS), Bethal Management Area, hosted the Netball National Championships from May 18 to 21, at the Sasol Club.

According to Correctional Services, the objective of the event was to improve employee wellness, sustain morale, and promote social coexistence among officials.

Male and female officials from six DCS regions across South Africa competed in the national championships, which are held every two years. The previous championships were hosted in Kroonstad in 2024.

During the 2024 tournament, the Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West (LMN) Region men’s team and the Gauteng women’s team were crowned champions and awarded trophies.

The same teams successfully defended their titles this year.

The championships were officially opened by acting Deputy Regional Commissioner of the Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West Region, Ronel Pretorius, who represented Regional Commissioner Tlabo Thokolo.

In her remarks, Pretorius welcomed all visitors to the LMN Region and thanked participants for availing themselves of the tournament.

“From all of us, the Regional Commissioner, his team and the entire LMN, we profoundly appreciate the Head Office and the organisers for nominating us to host the 2026 Championships.”
