The party plans to ask the Speaker of the Gauteng Legislature to censure the provincial health department’s leadership, while continuing to push for a memorial that reflects the wishes of Deokaran’s family.
DA Shadow MEC for health Jack Bloom says failure to act shows disrespect for Deokaran’s role in exposing the looting of more than R2 billion from the Tembisa hospital.
“I think it just highlights the fact that she was abused by the department when she was working for them. They disregarded her call for a proper investigation to Tembisa hospital and now they’re disregarding her legacy in the department.”
Deokaran was shot and killed on 23 August 2021 outside her home in Winchester Hills, Johannesburg.
It’s understood she was targeted due to her role in exposing corruption and fraudulent transactions at Tembisa Hospital
