Eskom reports that it is struggling to restore electricity in areas hit by power outages as severe weather and infrastructure damage persist.
Extremely heavy rainfall in the Outeniqua area near Meiringspoort is hampering restoration efforts, with waterlogged ground and inaccessible roads further delaying progress.
Kyle Cookson, Eskom spokesperson in the Western Cape, says teams also faced a setback in the Robberg area near Plettenberg Bay after several conductors were stolen overnight.Â
“Eskom recovery teams continue to face operational challenges across several areas as persistent inclement weather and infrastructure-related incidents impact electricity supply and recovery operations,” Cookson says. “Eskom appeals to the public to remain patient and exercise caution around damaged electrical infrastructure.”
Cookson adds that a new electrical fault has also been detected in Kleinmond in the Overberg.
