The Western Cape Department of Agriculture has confirmed an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) on a small farm near George.
According to the department, three cattle tested positive on a property situated on the edge of the 10-kilometre quarantine zone in Mossel Bay. The affected animals are part of a herd of 18, and the farm has since been placed under strict quarantine.
The department added that vaccination efforts in the George and Mossel Bay areas are at an advanced stage, with the majority of cattle in the region already immunised.
