Two suspected cash-in-transit robbers shot dead in shootout with Gauteng police

Two suspected cash-in-transit robbers have been shot dead in a shootout with Gauteng police, while two others remain on the run.

The suspects are believed to have been involved in a cash-in-transit robbery in Virginia, in the Free State, on Friday.

Gauteng police said that their tactical response team received information from their Free State counterparts early this morning that the suspects were travelling towards Soweto.

The officers provided backup and later spotted a vehicle matching the description of the getaway car.

Police said that when they attempted to pull the vehicle over, the occupants opened fire, triggering a shootout.

The police’s Isaac Mudau said that two suspects were killed, while the other two managed to flee on foot.
