IEC confirms all local government election results in the Western Cape have been captured

The Electoral Commission said that all election results in the Western Cape have now been captured and audited, with a recount conducted in one voting district in the Breede Valley following an objection.

The IEC said that its results system flagged statistical anomalies during the counting process, requiring further verification before results could be finalised.

Western Cape Electoral Officer, Michael Hendrickse, said that objections material to the outcome must be resolved in accordance with the law, while the recount underscores the importance of ensuring every vote is accounted for.

“ In this regard, following an objection, we can confirm that there has already been one recount, which has now been concluded in a single voting district in the Breede Valley Municipality in the presence of party agents.”
