The Emalahleni Local Municipality has introduced a Municipal Accounts Incentive Scheme aimed at providing financial relief to customers struggling to settle their outstanding municipal accounts.
The scheme, adopted by the Municipal Council, offers qualifying customers discounts on outstanding debts and the opportunity to enter into payment arrangements.
Residential customers qualify for a 50% settlement incentive, while residential pensioners may receive 75%. Approved indigent customers qualify for a 100% incentive.
Businesses and agricultural customers are eligible for a 30% discount, while non-profit organisations (NPOs) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) qualify for 40%. Government departments are eligible for an interest waiver.
Customers unable to settle their accounts immediately may also benefit from payment arrangements, subject to the municipality’s policy.
The scheme will remain in effect until 30 June 2027.
For further information, customers can contact Mr Lwandle Juwele at juwelel@emalahlenilm.gov.za or 047 878 2151 during office hours, between 08:00 and 16:00.
