The African National Congress (ANC) has welcomed an Electoral Court judgment dismissing a legal challenge to its Eastern Cape candidate lists for the 2026 Local Government Elections.
In a statement issued on 2 November 2026, the ANC said the application was brought by two of its members who sought to have the candidate lists set aside.
According to the party, the court found that the applicants had failed to establish that the ANC’s nomination and selection processes were materially affected by alleged irregularities.
The ANC said the court also accepted its explanation regarding the publication of candidate information and the handling of internal disputes.
The judgment further reaffirmed the importance of electoral deadlines, with the court finding that the Electoral Commission could not extend a deadline for one political party while keeping it unchanged for others.
Following the ruling, the ANC called on its structures and members to resolve disputes through established internal processes.
The party also urged its Eastern Cape candidates and volunteers to intensify community engagement ahead of voting day on 4 November 2026.
