A manhunt is underway for a Gauteng pastor after a woman was raped and her four-month-old baby killed.
The 43-year-old woman was attacked at the Hennops River near Centurion on Wednesday.
Police said she went to the river with the pastor and his wife to perform a ritual.
She is said to have continued toward the river with the pastor, while his wife remained behind with the baby.
The police’s Dimakatso Nevuhulwi said, “It is alleged that the woman was subsequently raped and tied up. The victim managed to free herself and sought assistance at a nearby construction site, and a private security company was activated and the police were alerted.”
After police and drones were deployed, the 24-year-old pastor’s wife was found.
Nevuhulwi said she led investigators to a shallow grave near the river, where the baby’s body was found.
“Police have opened a case of kidnapping, rape, and murder. The investigation is underway while the manhunt for the pastor continues.”
