Police in the Western Cape are investigating two separate triple murder incidents that took place on Sunday and Monday morning.
Detectives attached to the Anti-Gang Unit are investigating the separate incidents.
The provincial police spokesperson, Captain Frederick van Wyk, said the first incident took place in Athlone just after 9pm on Sunday, August 23.
“According to reports, on Sunday, Athlone SAPS members received a complaint of a shooting incident at premises in Lower Klipfontein Road, Silvertown. Upon arrival, they found the bodies of two males aged 19 and 36 lying next to each other in the kitchen area of the house, with multiple gunshot wounds on their upper bodies,” van Wyk said.
A third victim, a 22-year-old man, was also found with a gunshot wound to his head.
“A third victim aged 22 was shot in the head and was taken to a nearby medical facility, where he later died due to the injury sustained. The two victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. Athlone police registered three counts of murder,” van Wyk said.
In an unrelated matter, Mfuleni SAPS members responded to a shooting incident at a premises in Marshall Crescent in Happy Valley at 1.45am on Monday, August 24.
“Upon arrival, the bodies of three persons, a woman and two males aged between 20 and 25, were found in a shack with multiple gunshot wounds. All three victims were declared deceased on the scene by the paramedics. Mfuleni police registered three counts of murder,” van Wyk said.
No arrests have been made at this stage, and police confirmed both incidents are believed to be gang-related.
