Western Cape Education opens 2027 school transfer window for parents

Parents and caregivers seeking to transfer their children to another school in the Western Cape for the 2027 academic year have been urged to apply, as the department’s transfer window opens.

The Western Cape Education Department’s (WCED) transfer process runs from 3 to 17 August.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the province said the process prioritized pupils whose circumstances required a transfer, including families who had relocated.

It added that pupils moving to a school that offered the next grade, as well as children needing placement for welfare, medical or legal reasons, would also be prioritised.

Meanwhile, WCED Spokesperson Bronagh Hammond reminded parents that placement at their preferred school was not guaranteed, as some schools received more applications than they could accommodate.

“There are always pupils in the system that will require placement due to moving provinces or towns as parents take up new job opportunities, for example. Now, this happens throughout the school year, and we must not confuse this with the normal admission process,” Hammond said.
