Gauteng Health intensifies efforts to prevent teenage pregnancy and HIV infections among young people

The Gauteng Health Department has intensified efforts to prevent teenage pregnancy and HIV infections among young people through a campaign held in Ekurhuleni this week.

The department said that both boys and girls must be involved in preventing teenage pregnancy, urging them to make informed choices and use available sexual and reproductive health services.

The campaign also promoted lenacapavir, a twice yearly HIV prevention alternative for eligible people.

It’s now available at 133 public healthcare facilities across the province, following its rollout in June.

Department Spokesperson Steve Mabona said, “The department will continue working with schools, families, communities and other partners to reduce teenage pregnancy, prevent new HIV infections and ensure that young people are supported to make healthy and informed choices.”
