Mpumalanga police probing 6 counts of murder after shooting involving illegal miners

Mpumalanga police are investigating six counts of murder following a shooting involving illegal miners.

A resident in Ngodwana alerted authorities on Saturday after he sighted several bodies near an illegal mining site.

The shooting is believed to have occurred between two rival illegal mining groups.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said, “We received a call from a member of the community who reported that he saw bodies lying around on top of the mountain at Ngodwana police precinct. We then dispatched our members from the illicit mining team. Indeed, when they arrived at the scene, they found the bodies. They started counting – it was six of them with gunshot wounds.”
