His appointment also comes as Operation Prosper strengthens joint SAPS and South African National Defence Force (SANDF) deployments in identified crime hotspots.
Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane said Dyantyi’s career reflects operational excellence, academic achievement and an unwavering commitment to public service.
Dyantyi graduated from Maleoskop Police Training College in 1994 and began his career as a student constable at Elliot Police Station in the Eastern Cape before serving as a K9 dog handler.
He holds a master’s, honours and bachelor’s degree, including a national diploma in policing.
Over the past 34 years, he has held several senior leadership positions, including Station Commander, Cluster Commander, Provincial Head of Crime Prevention and District Commissioner in both the Eastern Cape and Western Cape.
His postings include Paarl, Vredendal, the Overberg, Mthatha, Queenstown, Tygerberg, Nyanga and, most recently, the West Coast District.
Dimpane said Dyantyi’s extensive qualifications and experience in both urban and rural policing make him well-suited to lead policing in the Western Cape.
STRONGER PARTNERSHIPS
Speaking after his appointment in Cape Town on Wednesday, Dyantyi said tackling crimes like extortion and gang violence will require stronger partnerships between police and communities.
He said the SAPS will soon unveil its implementation plan under the Police Reset Agenda, which includes strengthening leadership at 140 high-crime police stations and rolling out a national organised crime strategy.
However, Dyantyi stressed that rebuilding public trust will be critical to the success of these interventions.
“Because these issues are happening within the communities. There are people within the community that witness these activities taking place. But if the community does not have trust to provide that information to the police, then it will be difficult for the police to address those issues.”
Dyantyi said restoring public confidence and strengthening community cooperation will be central to efforts to reduce crime across the province.
