Two high school learners from the Lowveld, Alieke van Zyl, a matric pupil at Hoërskool Nelspruit, and Lucia Mhlabane of Shongwe Boarding School in Malalane, were part of the Mpumalanga women’s golf team at the SA Women’s Interprovincial Tournament.
The tournament took place at the Devonvale Golf & Wine Estate in Stellenbosch from May 18 to 22.
Alieke and Lucia were joined by two teammates from Middelburg, Bea Breedt and Chantey-Lee Visser. They competed under the guidance of team manager Petricia Buurman, also from Middelburg, who serves as vice-president of Women’s Golf South Africa.

Lucia was the top points scorer with 9.5 points, followed closely by Alieke on 9 points, Bea on 8 points, and Chantey-Lee on 7 points. Players earned points for each foursomes and singles victory.
The team won the women’s B division, securing promotion to the A division in 2027. Each team played five matches over four rounds, with Mpumalanga winning all five and finishing on 25.5 points. Boland followed on 19 points, with Ekurhuleni third on 16 points.
