Limpopo police have arrested a 49-year-old Zimbabwean national after intercepting a truck carrying illicit tobacco worth R1.5 million.
The bust followed intelligence about a white Nissan truck allegedly transporting contraband from Zimbabwe to Gauteng.
The provincial tracking team, working with private security, kept the vehicle under surveillance before stopping it along the R510 in Moletlane.
Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba said the driver was arrested at the scene.
He said further investigations revealed that the suspect was in South Africa illegally.
“The Nissan truck, valued at R800,000 and the illicit tobacco were seized during the arrest with a combined value of R2.3 million. The suspect is expected to appear before the Zebediela Periodical court on Monday 08 June 2026, facing charges of Contravention of the Customs and Excise Act of 91 and Contravention of the Immigration Act. Police investigations are continuing,” said Moletlane.
