Today’s weather: Cold front set to bring rain and isolated storms to Western Cape

South Africans can expect a mix of cool, cloudy and partly cloudy conditions on Tuesday as a cold front brushes the Western Cape while isolated showers and thundershowers develop across parts of the central interior.

The Western Cape will be the wettest province, with a 60% chance of rain over the south-western parts, including the Cape Town region, and a 30% chance of showers further north and west.

Conditions will remain cloudy and cool to cold, with fresh to strong north-westerly winds along the west coast before turning south-westerly later in the day as the cold front moves through.

Across the central interior, including parts of the Free State, North West, Northern Cape and the northern areas of the Eastern Cape, a 30% chance of showers and thundershowers is expected during the afternoon. Morning fog patches may develop in places before clearing.

Gauteng will remain partly cloudy and cool, while Mpumalanga and Limpopo can expect fine weather after early morning fog patches, with temperatures warming up in the Lowveld and northern areas.

KwaZulu-Natal is forecast to be partly cloudy with morning fog over the interior, becoming fine and cool, although warmer conditions are expected along the coast and in the eastern parts of the province.

The Eastern Cape will see partly cloudy conditions, with isolated showers and thundershowers mainly affecting the northern interior. Temperatures will be cold in the northern districts, while coastal and southern areas remain cool to warm.

No severe weather warnings, fire danger warnings or advisories have been issued by the South African Weather Service for Tuesday.

Rainfall chances for Tuesday stand at 60% in the south-western Western Cape and 30% across parts of the Western Cape, North West, Free State, Northern Cape and interior sections of the Eastern Cape, while the remainder of the country is expected to remain largely dry.
