Gauteng police are searching for four people who escaped after a dramatic chase ended in a shooting at a shopping centre in Bryanston.
One suspect was arrested on Monday when officers tracked down a hijacked car reported stolen in Norwood
The car was recovered and signal jammers believed to have been used by the suspects were found.
The Haval H6 was reported hijacked at the Norwood Police Station, prompting an alert to law enforcement agencies.
Highway patrol members later spotted the vehicle on the N1 highway and gave chase.
The pursuit came to an end at Winifred Mandela Precinct shopping centre, where officers attempted to arrest the occupants.
Five suspects jumped out of the vehicle and fled in different directions.
Police opened fire during the chaotic scene and managed to apprehend one of the men while the others escaped.
Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said, “About five occupants came out and fled on foot to different directions. The police managed to arrest one of the suspects.”
Police said efforts to track down the four remaining suspects are continuing.
