Gauteng traffic police chief inspector Samuel Mashaba said he wants to clear senior African National Congress (ANC) leader Faith Mazibuko after her name surfaced during his testimony before the Madlanga Commission.
Mashaba appeared before the commission this week regarding the botched 2021 drug bust in the south of Johannesburg, in which more than 700 kilograms of cocaine were seized.

WhatsApp messages shown at the commission on Thursday revealed that Mashaba and his so-called informant, Tumelo Nku, had discussed Mazibuko in one of their conversations.
While the messages contained no suggestion that Mazibuko was involved in any criminal activity, questions were raised about the nature of her relationship with Mashaba.
In his closing remarks, Mashaba sought to clarify the matter, telling the commission that Mazibuko is like a mother to him.
“I wish to also clear Ms Mazibuko because that person I take as a mother. I have worked with her. She doesn’t mix with wrong things. She doesn’t want people who do wrong things around her.”
