Free State police are seeking help in identifying the body of the man found in the Namahadi River

Phuthaditjhaba police in the Free State are appealing for anyone who may be looking for a missing male relative to contact them after a decomposed body was discovered in the Namahadi River near Clubview.

Police were alerted by a community member on Thursday to a body floating on the surface of the river.

Officials further discovered that the deceased had been wrapped in a blanket and tied to a stone with a thread.

Authorities said they could not determine at this stage if there were any visible injuries because the body was in an advanced state of decomposition.

Police are investigating a murder case and are also working to determine the man’s identity and the circumstances surrounding his death.

Phuthaditjhaba police are investigating a murder where the decomposed body of a male person was found floating on the river. Any information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the suspect[s] can be given to Captain Paramente Motseki on 079 887 6961,” said Mmako Mophiring of the police.
