Dam levels in the Free State remain stable

Free State Province’s total dam levels remained unchanged this week at 101.6%, according to the latest weekly State of Reservoirs report Ministry of Water and Sanitation.

Although weekly dam levels remained stable this week, they still show an increase of 0.8% compared to the same period last year.

The Krugersdrift Dam has increased from 100.5% to 103.1%. Sterkfontein Dam has decreased slightly from 99.4% to 99.3%. Metsi-Matsho Dam levels have remained the same at 98.3%.

One of South Africa’s largest dams, the Gariep Dam, located on the border of the Free State and the Eastern Cape Province near Norvalspont in the Xhariep district, rose by a total of 1.3%. The mother level for this week is 100.9%, compared to 99.6% last week.

The Fika-Patso Dam level remained stable at 96.7%. Bloemhof Dam experienced an increase of 1.2% to a level of 105.8%, against 104.6%. Meanwhile, the Groothoek Dam has increased by 0.7% from a dam level of 98.5% to 99.2%.

The Vanderkloof Dam, located downstream of the Gariep Dam, is currently at 100.2%, which is down from the 101.9% recorded last week. The Welbedacht Dam is at 100%, up from 95.1%, while the Rustfontein Dam has risen by 0.5% to a level of 100%, up from 99.5%.

The ministry continues to monitor all water systems and encourages consumers to use water wisely and always remember to report any damage or leaks to the municipality.
