A 42-year-old police officer is said to be linked to the kidnapping of a teenager from Bloemfontein, appeared in the court of the city on Monday.
Sergeant Nzima Philemon Adoons was arrested during the weekend for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of the 19-year-old Kamogelo Baukudi, who is a student at the Martie du Plessis Special School.
Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Mojalefa Senokoatsane, says that Sergeant Adoons is confronted with serious charges, including extortion.
In the court it was revealed that the suspect had called the victim’s mother to request a ransom.
Senokoatsane says that the officer will remain in custody until his next court on Friday, when he is expected to receive a legal adviser and request bail.
The arrest of the Voorpoot follows a police investigation that associated him with a police vehicle that was reportedly used in the kidnapping.
Baukudi was last seen on Thursday, June 5, 2025, when he was reportedly taken by two unknown men dressed in police uniforms. His place of residence remains unknown.
In the meantime, police spokesman Brigadier Motantsi Makhele says that they have given priority to his safe return as a matter of the greatest urgency.
He says they are committed to discover the truth behind this horrible crime.
The research is underway.
