Johannesburg – De Vrije Staat marked a heart -warming start of the Easter weekend with the birth of 15 babies on Good Friday.
Provincial health Mec Monyatso Mahlatsi welcomed the newborns, congratulated the mothers and urged them to adhere to postnatal care guidelines to support the health and development of their children.
The first baby was delivered to the Nala Hospital, with extra births registered in Dihlabeng Regional and Pelonomi Tertiary Hospitals.
Spokesperson for the Health Department Mondli Mvambi said that the safe delivery of the babies emphasized the dedication of health workers and the importance of continuous investments in mother’s and neonatal care.
“Mahlatsi also encouraged the new mothers to follow essential care protocols for their newborns, including immediate care at birth, delayed cord recording, thorough drying, assessment of breathing, skin-to-skin contact, early initiation of exclusive breastfeeding.”
