THE EFF in Limpopo is calling for the state to seize a farm outside Mankweng in Polokwane and use it for the benefit of the community.

This follows a shooting incident where two women were killed, and a man wounded on a farm outside Polokwane in Limpopo on 17 August 2024.

It’s alleged Mariah Makgato (47), a mother of four and Lucia Ndlovu (34) trespassed on the farm after a truck had dumped expired goods. The women allegedly went to collect some goods, accompanied by Lucia’s husband.

According to the police, the victims were shot when farm owners fired several shots, leading to the deaths of the women and wounding the husband, who was able to crawl to the main road to seek help and was rushed to hospital.

Limpopo police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that the bodies of the women were found in a pigsty on the farm after police received information about the incident. Three men have since been arrested.

Farm owner Zachariah Olivier (60), farm supervisor Rudolph De Wet (19) and worker Zimbabwean national William Musora (40) briefly appeared in the Mankweng Magistrates Court on 23 August.

They were charged with two counts of premeditated murder, one count of attempted murder, possession of a firearm and ammunition and contravention of the Immigration Act.

EFF Limpopo region spokesman Jacob Lebogo said the party condemns the farmers’ action, pointing it out as horrific and Satanic.

“Unfortunately, these incidents continue to happen because perpetrators are not given harsher punishment to deter them from behaving in a manner that’s worse than animals. Racists continue to believe other races don’t matter. The EFF will never tolerate this conduct, and we we’ll do everything in our power to uproot it,’’ said Lebogo.

He also said the party will never stand for a situation where certain members of the community think they are superior than others and think they have more right to life than others.

“We call for the closure of this farm with immediate effect to allow a proper investigation to unfold without any hindrance. Law enforcement authorities must also check if the killers are not a flight risk,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, the three accused are expected to appear in court on Friday, 30 August.
