Carnage on South Africa’s roads: Six dead, two seriously injured in horrific multiple crashes | The Citizen

The impact of a head-on collision in the Free State was so severe that three women and two men died on the spot.

At least six people were killed and several injured in a series of tragic road accidents in the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal on Friday night and Saturday morning.

Five people were killed in a devastating head-on collision around 10pm on the R707 between Marquard and Senekal.

Horrific accident in Free State: Five dead in head-on collision

“A black BMW with Lesotho plates with a male driver and a white KIA with a GP plate had a male driver and three female passengers,” said police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring.

According to police reports, the BMW was driven by a male driver, while the KIA had a male driver and three female passengers. The impact was so violent that the three women and two men were killed instantly.

Marquard police responded to the incident and confirmed the fatalities. According to Mophiring, a case of manslaughter is currently being investigated.

Child hit by vehicle in Howick

On Saturday morning, Midlands EMS paramedics were called to Howick Main Road in Howick after receiving reports of a child having been struck by a vehicle.

Upon arrival they found a 12-year-old child who was seriously injured.

The child was stabilized at the scene and then taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment. The details surrounding the incident are still unclear, but the child is currently receiving medical attention.

Good Samaritan seriously injured in Mt Edgecombe

In another incident on Saturday, a Good Samaritan was seriously injured while helping a motorist in Mt. Edgecombe, KwaZulu-Natal.

The man was helping the driver of a white VW Golf 7 change a tyre on Hillhead Drive when a white Toyota Corolla hit him, sending the driver into the VW Golf.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla fled, abandoning his vehicle.

Members of the South African Reaction Unit (RUSA) arrived at the scene and found the man being treated by paramedics.

Arrive alive reported that he was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Three other people who also helped change the tire suffered minor injuries.

Pedestrian killed on N2 near Ballito

The final incident of the day occurred on the N2 near Ballito, where a pedestrian was fatally struck by a taxi.

Emergency workers from IPSS Medical Rescue arrived on the scene early in the morning, but unfortunately the 48-year-old man had already sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival.
