Awaiting trial prisoner found dead at Seshego police cells

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is investigating the sudden death of an awaiting trial prisoner inside the holding cells at the Seshego police station outside Polokwane.

Preliminary reports indicate that the 38-year-old suspect was discovered unconscious during a routine check-up on Monday and was certified dead by emergency medical services when they arrived.

The deceased was facing trial for a rape case committed in January and had made several court appearances, with his next scheduled appearance set for the 3rd of September 2024.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says IPID has attended to the scene.
