TROUBLE is brewing inside ActionSA as it faces a mass resignation from 22 members based in North West.

The members, who are also part of the Save North-West Campaign and the Party Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), said they intend to resign from the party with immediate effect.

They claimed that the circumstances leading to their resignation are due to the party’s intention to purge and threaten members of this group with notices or letters to invoke certain clauses of the party’s interim constitution to terminate their membership.

They further alleged that their transgression is that they, the Save North West branch of Save ActionSA Nationally, had requested a meeting with the North West Provincial Chairperson Kwena Mangope to address governance issues, 2024 electoral performance in North West, his dictatorial tendencies, and the removal of senior leaders/former PEC members in the province.

“Save North Campaign’s requests for meetings with Mangope, Party President Herman Mashaba, National Chairperson Michael Beaumont, and the Senate were all not successful despite us following all protocol.

“As members, we had observed a trend where some leaders show negation and disregard of the same interim constitution they are trying to enforce,” said one of the members who didn’t want to be named fearing for his safety.

He went on to mention that while they are disappointed that the top party leadership chose not to investigate the allegations or entertain a motion of no confidence (MONC) they preferred against Mangope, they will not waste their time in furnishing the ethics and disciplinary chair Alistair Shaw with reasons as to why the senate must not terminate their membership.

They said they would rather walk away on their own and leave the party.

“We wish to place it on record and exercise our right to resign from ActionSA and sever ties with the party as we believe the party cares more about protecting certain individuals’ privileges and friendships than the pursuit of an all-inclusive agenda, which is to grow the party and Fix South Africa.

“Our resignation from the party is effective immediately today, Wednesday, August 21, 2024. We will not give up our right to exercise our hard-earned right to freedom of speech, association, and choice,” said the members.

Responding to this, ActionSA spokesman Sam Mgobozi said: “We are aware and following due process.”
