Thursday’s weather: Brace for chilly conditions in Eastern Cape, with early fog in parts of SA | News24

The South African Weather Service has forecast freezing cold conditions for the Eastern Cape with morning fog expected in some parts of the country.

Impact-based warnings

A Yellow Level 4 warning for damaging wind and waves resulting in disruption to small harbours/ports and risk to medium vessels of dragging anchor/breaking mooring lines is expected between Plettenberg Bay and East London.

A Yellow Level 2 warning has been issued for coastal winds leading to difficulty in navigation at sea between Cape Point and Plettenberg Bay.

A Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging wind and waves resulting in localised disruption to small harbours/ports and difficulty in navigation for small vessels is expected between East London and Kosi Bay.

Fire danger warnings

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places over the northern parts of Limpopo.

Cold conditions are expected in places over the interior of the Eastern Cape.

Gauteng will be fine and warm.

The expected UVB sunburn index is high.

Partly cloudy conditions are forecast for Mpumalanga’s Lowveld, otherwise fine and cool to warm temperatures are expected.

Limpopo can expect fine and warm temperatures, but it will be hot in places in the western Bushveld, becoming cloudy on the Lowveld in the afternoon.

Fine and warm conditions are forecast in the North West.

The Free State will be fine and cool to warm.

Morning fog is expected in the southern parts of the Northern Cape, otherwise fine and cool to warm temperatures are forecast but it will be hot in the extreme north-western parts.

The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly at first, otherwise a light to moderate wind is expected.

The Western Cape can expect partly cloudy conditions along the south coast and adjacent interior with isolated showers and rain in the extreme south-eastern parts in the morning, as well as morning fog over the eastern parts.

It will be fine and cool to warm but cold in places along the south coast and eastern parts.

The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong easterly to south-easterly reaching gale force along the south-west coast in the morning, spreading to the south coast from the afternoon.

The expected UVB sunburn index is moderate.

Fine conditions are forecast in the Eastern Cape’s north, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cold, but cloudy with isolated showers and rain in places south of Somerset East, but scattered along the coast.

The wind along the coast will be a strong south-westerly at first, becoming fresh south-easterly. A fresh to strong north-easterly is expected in the evening.

The wind along the east coast will be a strong south-westerly, becoming moderate to fresh in the afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal will have morning fog patches over the western parts, otherwise cloudy and cold to cool with isolated showers and rain over the along the coast and adjacent interior.

The wind along the coast will be a gale force southerly to south-westerly, becoming strong from late morning, but a moderate to fresh wind is forecast from the south by the evening.
