Mpumalanga bus crash victims laid to rest

The six children, who lost their lives in the crash, were laid to rest on Saturday. 

Eleven others were injured when the bus transporting more than 30 pupil collided with a goods train outside Middelburg two weeks ago. 

Spokesperson for Community Safety in the province, Mmusi Moeti, said early reports indicate that the vehicle crossed a railway track at Mafube Village but had veered too close to the moving train.

Moeti said the bus driver suffered minor injuries. The train driver was not hurt.

Relative Sibongile Mdluli said her family has been left shattered by the loss of two children.

“We are pleading with Transport Department to enforce stricter law for scholar transport to ensure our children’s safety, because nowadays on the news we are seeing a rise in accidents involving pupils.”
