JOHANNESBURG – All eyes are on the Bloemfontein magistrates court, where the former personal assistant to former Free State premier Ace Magashule is expected to appear in court on Monday.
Moraadi Cholota, who studied in the US, arrived back on home soil last Thursday after attempts were made to prevent her extradition.
Cholota, along with Magashule, is one of several government officials accused of fraud and corruption in connection with the failed R255 million asbestos tender.
During the commission’s investigation into the state takeover in 2019, it was revealed that she was involved in Magashule’s shady deals.
Cholota is accused of facilitating corrupt financial transactions on behalf of her former boss, Magashule.
Cholota had initially agreed to testify for the state in the case, but later revealed she refused to cooperate with detectives’ investigation into the case.
The case is now in the hands of South African officials and the state is expected to pursue the matter after long delays in bringing the case to court.
It is reported that Cholota’s legal team is confident that she will be released on bail despite the state’s intentions to oppose her release.
