Riverlands dam collapse | Engineers keep close eye on fourth retention dam

CAPE TOWN – Water and sanitation experts are set to visit Riverlands where retention dams burst last week.

It wreaked havoc in the area and surrounds leaving about 200 families homeless.

The displaced are being accommodated at nearby shelters, including schools and churches.

Gift of the Givers is extending its operations and have deployed water tankers from the Eastern Cape.

This is because all major water pipes were washed away.

It is also providing firewood as residents battle without electricity.

Fodder for farm animals and pet food is also being provided.

Engineers are monitoring a fourth dam as concerns mount over whether it will burst if the bad weather persists.
