The Hawks based in Polokwane in Limpopo pounced on an alleged firearm training facility at Modimolle on Thursday where they seized several licenced firearms.
Spokesperson Warrant Officer Lethunya Mmuroa says they received a tip-off about facility and set up an multidisciplinary task team to investigate.
He says during the operation the team seized licensed rifles, pistols and ammunition but no arrests were made.
The Hawks says the purpose of the training is not yet clear but they cannot rule out the possibility of the farm being used as a military training base.
Warrant Officer Mmuroa says they will now investigate as to how these firearms landed on the farm.
Last month, 95 Libyan nationals were detained at the remote training camp in Mpumalanga province, bordering Mozambique and Eswatini.
Police said they entered South Africa on visas issued for security guard training but that the camp where they were discovered seemed more adapted to military training.
Their visas were cancelled after they had been found to have been “irregularly acquired” in the Tunisian capital based on “misrepresentation”, the government said.
A court in White River postponed the case until August 26 for further investigation. The men have been charged with violating immigration rules but police said they could face other charges.
