A disturbing video posted on Instagram by Maphepha Ndaba has gone viral, showing a South African police officer from the Northern Cape severely intoxicated while allegedly on duty.

In the video, recorded in the unknown area, the officer is seen struggling to stand and speak, clearly under the influence of alcohol. The video highlights a serious lapse in professionalism, raising questions about the officer’s ability to fulfil his duties effectively while intoxicated.

The video has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many users expressing deep concern over the officer’s behaviour. Social media users are questioning the reliability and safety of a police force that allows such conduct.

According to the South African government, police officers are entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of the public.

Brigadier Mashay Gamieldien, spokesperson for the Northern Cape police, confirmed that a police constable was arrested for allegedly driving a state vehicle while intoxicated.

The officer was on duty at the time of the incident.“The member has already appeared before the Mothibistad Magistrate’s Court on a charge of drunken driving, negligent and reckless driving, and using a state vehicle without the owner’s consent,” as reported by IOL.

Taking to the comments, users expressed a mix of anger and concern regarding the police officer.

One user remarked, “There’s always someone who will say, ‘Why take a video? He’ll lose his job.’ This is the same person who complains about South African police not doing their job but still expects them to perform well.”

Another commented, “Cops go through a lot! Mentally, I doubt any of them are still normal. Let’s be kind.”

Another user said, “But why did they take the video in the first place? I dislike such colleagues; they just wanted to embarrass him and get him fired.”

Lastly, another user asked, “Why would you go drinking in uniform or in clothing branded with your company’s logo?”
