DA won’t support Gauteng budgets – Msimanga

Various members of the executive council will be outlining the 2024/25 budgets this week, seeking approval from members of the legislature.

The party’s relationship with the ANC broke down after Premier Panyaza Lesufi announced his new executive, which includes members from the IFP, RISE Mzansi, and the Patriotic Alliance.

No single party managed to garner an outright majority in Gauteng.

The DA declined the opportunity to form a coalition with the ANC at the last minute, citing a failure to agree on power-sharing terms.

Msimanga believes that the budgets do not represent the needs of the people.

“They continue to put budgets that are aimed at just spending and not improving the people’s lives. The budgets there are not aimed at growing the economy. The budget out there is not going to address the challenges at our hospitals and schools, safety and security,” he told a media briefing on Wednesday morning.

“In fact, what we are seeing now is a continuation and upward trend of the so-called priorities, and this is what Panyaza is using to boost himself instead of delivering for people.

“This is why some of these things have been taken out of their traditional departments where there’s supposed to be MECs and into the premier’s office, which we doubt there will be the capability of him to be able to play proper governance or management in terms of how these things are to be rolled out.”
