Several members of the Gauteng Traffic Warden Training Programme were injured on Friday when a vehicle drove into them during their drilling session.

A spokesperson for the SANDF Siphiwe Dlamini says the person who caused the incident was taken into custody and is under medical supervision.

He says a case was also opened with SAPS.

Fourteen members were treated for minor injuries and have since been discharged while nine others remain in hospital.

The newly appointed Minister of Defence Angie Motshekga and the Premier of Gauteng Panyaza Lesufi are visiting the scene on Saturday for a full briefing.

Dlamini says social workers, psychologists and chaplains have been dispatched to provide support to affected families.

He says a full investigation will continue to determine the circumstances which led to this unexpected occurrence.
