Western Cape calls for decentralisation of emergency housing funds

CAPE TOWN – Western Cape Infrastructure MEC Tertuis Simmers wants a review of current housing funding mechanisms.

He says the recent weather patterns have highlighted the urgent need for a more efficient system.

In the 2023/24 financial year alone, over 24,000 structures have been damaged in Cape Town,
affecting 32,000 people.

Simmers says their efforts are delayed by bottlenecks at the national level.
