WC govt vows strict legal action as deadly Cape Town taxi shootings leave 5 dead

Western Cape Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku said that the Transport Priority Committee will meet today to coordinate its response in affected areas.

Sileku said the Provincial Regulatory Entity will investigate licensed taxi operators allegedly linked to violence.

He added that the department will also seek urgent court orders to stop unlawful attempts by taxi organisations to operate on routes served by other regional taxi councils.

He said restoring stability and peace in the taxi industry remains the top priority.

“We are working with the law enforcement agencies to address taxi violence across the Western Cape.”

Sileku added that the provincial government has undertaken not to use mediation to resolve the disputes but to allow the legal process to unfold.
