Limpopo brothers, aged nine and 12, die after returning home from playing

A family in Limpopo has been plunged into mourning after two young brothers, aged nine and 12, died after returning home from playing in Makuleke Village.

The boys died at a local clinic on Wednesday, October 14, after one reportedly arrived home crying while the other collapsed.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba confirmed that police in Saselamani were investigating two inquest cases following the deaths.

“It is alleged that the boys returned home from playing at around 6.30pm, in Makuleke Village, with one of them crying, while the other collapsed at their home,” said Mashaba.

The boys’ mother reportedly tried to establish what had happened, but neither child was able to speak.

She then arranged transport to a local clinic, where one of the brothers was declared dead on arrival. Medical personnel attended to the second child, but he also died.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear, leaving investigators to establish what happened to the boys before they arrived home.

“Circumstances surrounding the incident are currently unknown, but investigations will determine,” Mashaba said.
