ANC wants Western Cape back from DA

JOHANNESBURG – The ANC in the Western Cape said it’s ready to govern Cape Town.

The party hopes to build on its 2021 support as it challenges the DA in the metro, which the ANC last governed in 2006.

The ANC is also taking aim at the DA’s governance record, accusing it of not addressing the needs of poorer communities.

ANC Western Cape spokesperson Sifiso Mtsweni said they are intensifying their campaign.

“Our campaign is intensifying, we are left with just 20 days before elections and the Western Cape, I’m sure you’ve seen, even various polling stations have been telling you that the DA will lose its maturity, particularly in the city.

“The ANC will increase its base from 2021. We’ve been hard at work, our structures have been on the ground and I’m sure as you drive around Cape Town you can see the ANC is well branded, our structures are ready, we’ve got all our candidates now and we’ve made sure that we follow a rigorous process of ensuring that our candidates are credible, are qualified and are people that are enjoying the confidence of their communities.

“One thing that has become very clear, particularly in the Western Cape, is that the Democratic Alliance in the last 15 years or so has proven to be an organisation that works for a few.

“We’ve seen various reports, I mean the Constitutional Court giving a damning finding around issues of Tafelberg where public land was used for private sales, where we’ve seen the public protector saying that the city of Cape Town does not deliver services particularly to our areas such as Langa, Khayelitsha and all those areas. So our people really have seen that the DA is nothing but a fuss, it’s nothing but a face cut, it’s an organisation that only cares for a few, does not care for our people.”
