Bosun is set to enter the Western Cape paving, kerbing, retaining wall, and erosion control markets with the development of a new manufacturing facility in the Cape Town Northern Growth Corridor.
Representing an investment of more than R300m, the new facility is expected to commence production in early 2028.While Bosun has supplied projects in the Western Cape for some time, such as the Riverlands precinct and V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, The One Student Accommodation in Stellenbosch and Val de Vie Estate in Paarl, the investment marks an important new chapter for Bosun and will bring the Group’s extensive product range, manufacturing capabilities and focus on innovation directly to the Western Cape market.
For more than 30 years, Bosun has concentrated on what it does best: developing and manufacturing high-quality precast concrete products. Over that time, the business has established itself as the market leader in innovation, quality and product diversity in Southern Africa.
The new Western Cape operation will give architects, landscape designers, developers, contractors and homeowners greater freedom to create distinctive outdoor spaces, while also providing civil engineering contractors with access to Bosun’s patented technical products and solutions. At the heart of the new operation will be an imported Hess production plant, incorporating the latest available German manufacturing technology.
Part of a broader investment programme
The Western Cape development forms part of a wider programme of investment across the Bosun Group.
The Group recently announced major upgrades to its existing manufacturing facilities in Gauteng and the North-West, with the Eastern Cape operation to receive similar investment.
SmartStone is also part of the Bosun Group and, in March 2026, acquired its Western Cape licensee. The facility will be substantially modernised, enabling it to manufacture the latest SmartStone wet-cast product range.
Together, the new Bosun facility and SmartStone operation are expected to provide approximately 80 permanent jobs in the Western Cape.
While the new Bosun facility is being developed, selected products will be supplied from Bosun’s Midrand and Gqeberha operations through SmartStone’s facility in Wellington, giving the Western Cape market access to the Bosun range ahead of local production commencing.
This investment is about more than establishing a new manufacturing facility. It is about building long-term relationships in the Western Cape and giving the market greater choice in design, performance and technical solutions.
Bosun looks forward to becoming part of the Western Cape built environment and to contributing to the region’s paving, landscaping and infrastructure markets for many years to come.
