Gauteng is bracing for heavy rain, damaging winds and possible hail as a severe weather system moves across the province.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms, with localised flooding and hazardous driving conditions possible.
Meanwhile, both the City of Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg’s Emergency Management Services (EMS) are on high alert as the storms are expected to spread across parts of Gauteng.
It’s the kind of weather that could make weekend plans a little more complicated due to the constant state of flux observed on Friday.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop over southern and south-western Gauteng before spreading northwards.
And for those heading to 947 Joburg Day on Saturday, it may be worth packing a raincoat along with the pink umbrella.
The weather service said some areas could see heavy rain, damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning, creating hazardous conditions on the roads.
Ekurhuleni EMS spokesperson William Ntladi said, “Residents, remain on high alert and activate assistance soonest to any life-threatening emergencies.”
