Limpopo police said they remained committed to disrupting illegal mining activities across the province.
Officers, together with private security, carried out an operation at Atok in the Sekhukhune District targeting suspected illegal mining sites.
They found alleged zama zamas actively operating. Access to the mining area was blocked, forcing a halt to the activities.
According to police, the team later moved to Madaashoek, where more suspected illegal miners were spotted, but the suspects fled before they could be apprehended.
Limpopo police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba said equipment believed to have been used in illegal mining activities was confiscated, including 12 generators, four jackhammers, five wheelbarrows, four shovels, one spade, one pickaxe, a five-metre electrical cable, and two chisels.
