Gauteng public transport operators who have not yet collected their operating licences are being urged to visit their nearest Transport Operating Licensing Administrative Board (TOLAB) office and check the status of their applications.
The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport said 211 valid operating licences were handed over to compliant taxi and scholar transport operators between Wednesday and Friday.
The initiative formed part of efforts to clear licensing backlogs and ensure public transport operators remain legally compliant.
Department spokesperson Lesiba Mpya said 108 licences remained uncollected and could now face cancellation, subject to the relevant administrative processes.
“The department is appealing to operators to visit their nearest TOLAB where they applied and bring proof of receipt or ID document to check the status of their applications,” Mpya said.
Mpya added that the department communicated with operators ahead of the deadline, which was two days ago.
“Ahead of the deadline, the department undertook several campaigns including sending out SMSs to applicants, held a series of engagements with the taxi industry and scholar transport operators through regional awareness and outreach programs to encourage operators to visit offices and collect their issued operating licenses.”
