South Africans can expect another cold winter’s day on Friday, with the South African Weather Service issuing a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging interior winds over parts of the Northern Cape, while isolated rainfall is forecast only for the far north-eastern corner of KwaZulu-Natal.
The weather service warned that strong winds could cause localised damage to temporary structures and reduce visibility due to blowing dust across the Hantam and Karoo Hoogland municipalities in the Northern Cape.
Extremely high fire danger conditions are also expected in parts of the Northern Cape and Western Cape, including Hantam, Nama-Khoi, Cederberg, Matzikama and Laingsburg.
Much of the country is expected to remain dry, with no significant rainfall forecast over most provinces. The only chance of rain is along the far north-eastern coast of KwaZulu-Natal, where isolated showers and rain are expected with 30%.
Gauteng will experience a cold start to the day with frost in places before conditions become partly cloudy and cool.
Similar cold conditions are expected across the Free State, North West and Mpumalanga, while Limpopo will remain cloudy to partly cloudy and cool.
The Western Cape will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, with morning fog expected over north-western areas. The Northern Cape will be partly cloudy, windy and cool to warm, with morning fog patches possible in the extreme western interior.
The Eastern Cape is forecast to enjoy fine and warm weather across both the western and eastern regions, although cooler conditions are expected over the northern high-lying areas.
KwaZulu-Natal will start with morning fog over the interior before becoming partly cloudy and cold to cool during the day.
