The South African Weather Service has issued weather updates stating that frost and fog are expected in some provinces.
SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS
IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS
Yellow Level 2 warning: Damaging winds leading to localised damage to settlements (formal and informal) as well as risk of runaway fires are expected over the central parts of the Northern Cape.
FIRE DANGER WARNINGS
Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the eastern parts of Northern Cape as well as the northwestern parts of the Eastern Cape.

A. 09-11/08/2026: Orange Level 6 Warning: Disruptive snow leading to disruptions to livelihood, major traffic disruptions and some communities temporary inaccessible, is expected over Dr Beyers Naude, Chris Hani, Senqu, Elundini and Matatiele Local Municipalities of the Eastern Cape on Sunday into Tuesday.
B. 09-11/08/2026: Yellow Level 2 Warning: Disruptive snow leading to localised traffic disruptions, isolated loss of livestock and crops and localised disruptions to services, is expected in places over Koukamma, Kouga, Blue Crane, Raymond Mhlaba, Amahlathi, Intsika Yethu, Dr AB Xuma, Mhlontlo, and Mzimvubu Local Municipalities of the Eastern Cape on Sunday into Tuesday.
C. 09/08/2026: Yellow Level 2 Warning: Disruptive rain leading to localised flooding of susceptible settlements, roads and bridges,isexpected in places over Koukamma Local Municipality of the Eastern Cape on Sunday.
D. 9-11/08/2026: Very cold, wet and windy conditions expected over the southern parts of both the Free State, Northern Cape and the Eastern Cape as well as south western parts of Kwazulu-Natal from Sunday evening as a result of a combination of a cut-off-low and the cold front, spreading to the rest of the Free State with snowfalls on Monday and Tuesday. Farmers and the public in general are advised to take necessarily precautions.

Gauteng
Gauteng can expect morning frost in places in the south, otherwise fine and cool to warm.
The expected UVB Sunburn Index is High
Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect cloudy and foggy conditions in the morning over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and cool but warm over the Lowveld with isolated showers and rain over the Escarpment and the Lowveld.
Limpopo
In Limpopo, cloudy to partly cloudy over the east at first, otherwise partly cloudy and cool but warm in places.
North West
North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect fine and cool to warm, becoming partly cloudy over the southern parts.
Free State
In the Free State, fine and cool, becoming partly cloudy.
Northern Cape
Fine to partly cloudy, windy and cool to warm. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly.
Western Cape
Cloudy in the south-west with light rain from the late morning spreading along the south coast in the afternoon, otherwise fine. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh west to south-westerly
The expected UVB sunburn index is Low
Eastern Cape
The Western half: Morning fog in places in the south, otherwise partly cloudy, windy and warm, but cloudy and cool in places along the coast. Isolated showers and rain are expected west of Gqeberha at night. The wind along the coast will be Light to moderate northerly in places until mi-morning, otherwise fresh to strong southwesterly.
The Eastern half: Windy in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, but cloudy with fog in places south of the escarpment in the morning and again from the evening. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northeasterly, becoming fresh to strong south-westerly from late morning.
KwaZulu-Natal
Morning fog over the interior, otherwise fine to partly cloudy and warm but cool in the south-west. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly, becoming moderate south-westerly.
The expected UVB Sunburn Index is Extreme
